How to Build Your UX Strategy

Developing a user experience (UX) strategy is about ensuring an organization is doing everything it can to improve its customers' experiences.

This strategy might focus on one specific product or service or be applied to many different parts of the organization. The key is to develop a plan that considers what customers want and need and what the business needs to accomplish.

But just having a plan isn't enough - it's also important to explain to others how following through on the plan will help the organization succeed.

During this session, we’ll explore what UX strategy is, what factors are involved in creating one, and what constitutes a strong UX strategy.

About the Workshop

This workshop introduces the concept of UX strategy and its importance in guiding the design and implementation of user experience work. A UX strategy is a plan that outlines the actions needed to improve the user experience of a product, service, or organization over a specific period of time. It consists of three primary components: vision or statement of intent, goals and measures, and a plan. The vision sets the direction by articulating the desired future state of the user experience, while goals and measures help track progress and connect UX improvements with business objectives. The plan outlines the steps and objectives required to achieve the goals over time.

Having a strong UX strategy is crucial for organizations to succeed in the experience economy. Without a clear strategy, companies risk detachment from user needs, making decisions solely based on business value and missing opportunities for growth. Additionally, a weak or nonexistent UX strategy leads to confusion within teams, lack of direction, wasted resources, and diminished user and business value. To develop an effective UX strategy, organizations should focus on user data, understand business models, involve relevant stakeholders, and measure success based on key performance indicators.
